Case storyleave & absence
A Fortune 500 employer's leave team ran on carrier exports and spreadsheets. Here is what we built instead.
The problemWorkers' compensation, short-term disability, FMLA and transitional duty each lived in a different export from the carrier. Case coordinators kept their own spreadsheets. Nobody could say how many people were out today, how many came back last month, or whether a claim marked closed by the carrier was actually closed.
What was builtA leave & absence platform on the company's data warehouse: a daily case view for coordinators with every claim, status, doctor appointment and follow-up date, a transitional duty tracker, and a KPI dashboard for leadership with month and year-to-date side by side. Return-to-work logic was rebuilt from the work-status history, and a fallback matching layer recovered claims the carrier feed had lost.
What changedWorkers' comp and transitional duty data reconciled to 100% status matching across systems. More than a thousand previously unmatched records recovered. One number for "people out today" that HR, safety and finance all agree on.
Then the outreach appWith the data trustworthy, a second application followed, for the specialists who call employees proactively at defined touch points during a claim. It launched with one specialist group, then extended to a second, with each group seeing its own claims and the full population, surveys tied to the touch point and claim, and a leader view for program ROI.
